Funambol Introduces World's First Commercial Open Source Mobile Device Management for 4G WiMAX

Provides WiMAX operators and device makers with low-cost end-to-end solution for firmware over-the-air (FOTA) updates, bootstrap, provisioning, troubleshooting and lock-and-wipe

Funambol has introduced Funambol DM Carrier Edition, the world's first commercial open source device management solution for WiMAX. Developed with Clearwire, the WiMAX leader, the solution makes it faster, easier and cheaper to wirelessly manage WiMAX devices. It implements the OMA DM 1.2 standard and automates bootstrap, configuration, setup, provisioning, monitoring, Firmware over-the-air (FOTA) updates, lock-down and erase, and reporting. It also implements Device Reported Measurements and Diagnostics (DRMD), the new standard for WiMAX diagnostics and reporting, and is based on open source, for full customizability. The solution can be deployed on-premises or hosted in the cloud by Funambol for customers.

Funambol Carrier Edition v8.7 syncs photos on smartphones with the cloud-based Funambol Portal, where users can share them with Facebook, Flickr and Picasa. It further allows importing Facebook friends' profile pictures into user address books in the portal, where these photos can be synced with mobile devices and PC apps such as Outlook. Funambol v8.7 also increases the speed of syncing mobile photos and lays the foundation for syncing rich media such as video and music.
